Mark and I departed Burguete somewhere around 8:30 in the morning and knew, from the maps given us that this day, we would be walking a more even terrain. At the Hostel in Burguete I left a pair of shorts, some boxers, a perpetually damp shirt that wouldn´t dry and my two beloved books that I thought I could not live without- Paulo Coelho´s The Pilgrimage, detailing his extraordinary and mystical journey on the Camino and a new favorite Love Without End, a book that tells the experience of a famous American portraiture artist who painted Jesus – literally –…

Author Irving Stone must have been traversing the French Pyrenees when he penned his novel, The Agony and the Ecstasy. My spiritual teachers gently mentioned to me prior to my leaving that I must be willing to embrace both compassion and acceptance towards the self. It was to be my greatest challenge and my greatest gift. The ecstasy was the unparalled beauty of the landscape. My God, how could I be in the midst of all this ~~  vibrant, verdant covered mountain ranges, fields of wild flowers, herds of sheeps, cattle and mares with their colts all wearing bells around their…

Bonjour – Arrived in Biarritz France on the eve of the 28th after layovers in Frankfurt, Germany and Lyon, Spain – gorgeous resort town on the coast. Gear arrived and we took a taxi to Hotel Argi Eder in the heart of town with a speed that puts Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride to shame. Traveling with one of my oldest friends, Mark Wyrick. Rinsed out airplane clothes in this incredibly affordable hostel, only to discover that our new motto for this morning was, ” quick dry, my ass.” Ventured out for coffee – much was closed at 7 AM but…

May 25, 2009 Flying to Los Angeles It’s time. After many years of planning, dreaming, researching and saving, the Pilgrimage is just days away. Flying to Los Angeles from my current home in Mobile, AL and then will depart for the small French border down of Saint-Jean- Pied-de-port where the 700 kilometer journey across Spain begins. The Road to Santiago or “Camino” is a medieval route first traversed by French priest Aymeric Picaurd in 1123. Paulo Coelho writes in his book, The Pilgrimage, “Just as the Muslim tradition requires that all members of the faith, at least once in their…

We Are What We Repeatedly Do

At the gym, as I paced myself on the inclined treadmill, I became completely transfixed by the back of the t-shirt of the person tread-milling in front of me. It read, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” AristotleI smiled at the synchronicity. Only hours before, I had discovered that quote for the first time on a friend’s Facebook page and immediately wrote it down to use as a reference for an upcoming talk. Aristotle’s words so resonated with me that I found myself a bit surprised I’d never come across them…

The Good In Good-Bye

Self Doubt—I tell you good-bye. I know that your presence within me has caused my intuition to have to sleep on the couch. Doesn’t work anymore. Intuition is moving into the suite in which you somehow were mistakenly assigned. I need you to pack your things now and leave. Be sure and take every shred of second guessing with you cause we won’t be using it. Lack—I know you’ve held one of the prime rooms with a view in my world but we are now in the process of extensively remodeling and your beliefs no longer fit into the new…
